International Teacher Survey on Standardized Testing

Posted: April 11,2014

News Category : ETFO News

ETFO is supporting a voluntary survey about standardized testing that has been posted on the ETFO website. This international survey is being conducted by Arlo Kempf PhD, a Canadian researcher at the Centre for the Study of Education and Work, OISE/UT. This study was funded by Banting Post-Doctoral Fellowship # 772-2011-054, awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada / Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada. It was developed in consultation with colleagues from the Ontario Teachers’ Federation, United Teachers Los Angeles, and the Elementary Teachers of Toronto.

The findings of this survey may help ETFO and the affiliates in their goal  to influence EQAO to adopt  a random sampling –rather than census-based (province-wide) – approach to standardized testing.    It may also provide us with data that we can use to rein in the scope of the testing and place higher value on teacher professional judgement and daily classroom-based assessment.

Please see the survey information as posted on the ETFO:
