How do I apply for funds from my union for professional development workshops?
Complete a new application which you can get from your steward, the web site or by calling 905-564-7233. Make sure you submit a complete application at least 15 school days prior to the beginning of the course/workshop/conference. (read the back and front carefully).
 
How can I get involved in my local?
Start by surfing this site and reading about the standing committees we have. You can get involved as little or as much as you would like by simply contacting the Chair of the committee and seeing what projects they are planning this year.

Attend general membership meetings and find out what is going on in Peel and around the province. These meetings are also a great place to get to know your executive.
 
When do resignation letters have to be put in?
If you are resigning during the school year you are required to give 30 days notice to the board. If you are resigning at the end of the school year the resignation date is May 31. (Refer to article 16.01 of your collective agreement.)
 
Who do I send resignation and/or retirement letters to?
Letters should reach the board through your principal.
 
Where do I get information about retirement planning?
To help make the decision about when to retire, the Peel Elementary Teachers Local offers an annual pension workshop to help understand our pension calculations, tax implications, and the Canada Pension Plan. The Ontario Teachers Federation runs retirement workshops every year. A variety of workshop sessions are offered and one on one meeting with a pension advisor is included. How many days can I work as an occasional teacher after I retire?
Up to the year 2006, retired teachers may work up to 95 days each school year. As an occasional teacher you become a member of the Occasional Teacher Local of ETFO. For additional information on this issue please call their president, Shelly Jan at 905-568- 9937.

If you visit the D & R Insurance website at www.drinsurance.ca you can print copies of each of the forms from the "Quick Links" section.
 
When do I need to apply for Long Term Disability?
Elementary teachers in Peel are considered for LTD after a 90 teaching day ‘elimination period.’ If you have been off for more than 10 days and believe you may need to apply for LTD, call Tim Cunningham at your Local office 905-564-7233 for further information and the application kit.
